PINNAWELA ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE
In the Pinnawala Orphanage, Sri Lanka is an internationally-acclaimed recovery and conservation center that is renowned for its efforts to assist injured and orphaned elephants heal, restoring their fitness, decreasing risk of injury as well as promoting conservation and serving in the role of one of the major tourist destinations on the island. Histories A: Founded by the Sri Lankan government in 1975 to serve as the first orphanage in Sri Lanka and shelter for abandoned and orphaned elephants, the Pinnawala Orphanage has morphed into a major research and conservation facility in the course of time.
